Physical Description

The Tripp Lite Spike Bar SK6-6 features a textured off-white plastic enclosure with a raised control section housing the illuminated power switch and protection indicator.

Six grounded outlets are arranged in a single row along the top surface of the unit. The enclosure exhibits moderate age-related yellowing, particularly when compared to the attached power cord.

An attached power cord approximately five feet in length terminates in a grounded NEMA 5-15P plug.

The enclosure incorporates wall-mount provisions, allowing the unit to be secured to a vertical surface for installation behind desks, computer workstations, and other equipment.

The underside of the enclosure incorporates a metal mounting plate with stamped keyhole slots. In addition, molded mounting ears are present at each end of the housing and appear to provide a more practical mounting method using conventional screws.

Due to the limited clearance between the metal plate and the enclosure, the use of the stamped keyhole slots may require fasteners with unusually low-profile heads.

The documented example exhibits holes in the end mounting tabs that appear to have been added by a previous owner. These holes were likely used for direct screw mounting and do not appear to be part of the original manufacturing process.

The underside of the enclosure incorporates a metal mounting plate with stamped keyhole mounting slots. The documented example also exhibits holes in the molded end tabs that appear to have been added after manufacture, likely to facilitate direct screw mounting.

The narrow clearance between the mounting plate and the enclosure may limit the types of fasteners that can be used with the keyhole slots.

Operational Testing

The documented example remains operational and successfully powers connected equipment.

The green protection indicator did not illuminate during testing.

The illuminated red rocker switch exhibited visible flicker during operation. Similar behavior has been observed on multiple Tripp Lite SPIKE BAR units of this era.
