The '''COXOC CO-001S (Variant OS-0030)''' is a documented example of the [[COXOC CO-001S]] six-outlet surge protector preserved by the OldSurge Archive.

Although externally similar to the previously documented CO-001S specimen, this example exhibits several notable differences including a shorter power cord, lower overall weight, an illuminated rocker switch that remains functional, and a power-cord assembly bearing COXOC branding rather than the Apollo-manufactured cord identified on the archive's first documented example.

The specimen provides evidence that multiple manufacturing variations of the CO-001S were produced and demonstrates how apparently identical consumer surge protectors often incorporated different components, suppliers, and construction details during production.

== Overview ==

The COXOC CO-001S is a consumer surge protector intended to provide both surge suppression and AC power distribution for computers, peripherals, office equipment, and household electronics.

The design incorporates six grounded outlets arranged in three molded pairs, a rocker power switch, a resettable circuit breaker, and a permanently attached power cord. Its heavily textured enclosure and stepped switch housing give the unit a distinctive appearance compared with many later surge protectors utilizing smoother case designs.

Limited documentation of the model has presently been identified. Surviving examples suggest that the CO-001S originated during a period when Taiwanese manufacturers supplied large quantities of surge protectors and power-distribution products to North American consumers, often under lesser-known brand names.

The documented example was acquired as part of the OldSurge Archive's efforts to preserve and document products from manufacturers that have largely disappeared from the consumer surge-protection market.

== Significance ==

The documented specimen is significant because it demonstrates variation within the COXOC CO-001S product line.

At first glance the unit appears nearly identical to the archive's previously documented example. Closer examination, however, revealed differences in cord length, overall weight, switch functionality, and power-cord markings.

These variations suggest that COXOC may have sourced components from multiple suppliers or introduced manufacturing revisions during the production life of the model. Such differences are common among consumer electrical products of the 1990s but are often undocumented.

The specimen therefore provides a useful reference for understanding manufacturing variation within low-cost consumer surge protectors.

Internal examination showed that OS-0030 shares essentially identical construction with specimen OS-0028, including the same SAS 241KD14 surge-suppression device, RONG FENG RF-112B circuit breaker, stamped-metal outlet assembly, and three-screw enclosure design. The primary differences observed between the two specimens relate to cord length, weight, switch-lamp operation, and overall condition rather than substantial design changes.

Subsequent teardown examination demonstrated that OS-0030 and OS-0028 share essentially identical internal construction, including the same SAS 241KD14 metal-oxide varistor, RONG FENG RF-112B resettable circuit breaker, and stamped-metal outlet-contact assembly. The primary differences between the two documented examples involve cord length, overall weight, switch-lamp operation, manufacturer markings on the cord assembly, and overall condition.

The specimen demonstrates how otherwise identical consumer surge protectors may exhibit minor production variations while retaining the same fundamental electrical design.

== Date Codes ==

No serial number, manufacturing date, or date-code markings have presently been identified on the exterior of the documented example.

The molded regulatory-information panel identifies the unit as model CO-001S, specifies a maximum electrical rating of 125 volts, 15 amperes, and 60 hertz, and lists a transient suppression voltage rating of 330 volts. The panel also identifies UL file number E147475 and confirms manufacture in China.

The ratings and markings appear substantially identical to those documented on specimen OS-0028.

In the absence of packaging, manufacturer literature, or identifiable date-code markings, the precise manufacturing date remains unknown. Based upon overall design characteristics, construction methods, and component selection, the unit is believed to have been manufactured during the consumer-computing era of the 1990s.

== Condition Upon Acquisition ==

The documented specimen was acquired in used condition and exhibited moderate cosmetic wear consistent with long-term consumer use.

The enclosure remained structurally intact and retained its textured finish. Minor scuffs, scratches, and surface discoloration were observed.

Unlike specimen OS-0028, no obvious heat-related damage was observed on the attachment plug.

The rocker switch remained intact and functional. During testing, the switch illumination operated normally.

The specimen was cleaned prior to detailed photography and documentation.

== Functional Testing ==

The documented specimen successfully passed basic operational testing.

When connected to utility power, the rocker switch controlled power delivery to all receptacles and the integrated switch lamp illuminated normally when the unit was switched on.

Testing with a receptacle tester confirmed proper hot, neutral, and ground connections at the protected outlets.

Unlike the archive's first documented CO-001S example, this specimen retained a functioning illuminated switch. The observation indicates that at least some CO-001S units originally incorporated lamp-equipped rocker switches rather than non-illuminated switch assemblies.

== Teardown ==

The COXOC CO-001S enclosure is secured using three Phillips-head screws and can be opened non-destructively.

Removal of the upper housing revealed an unusually simple internal construction consisting of a stamped-metal outlet-contact assembly, a resettable circuit breaker, a rocker power switch, and a single metal-oxide varistor (MOV) providing surge suppression.

Power enters through the attached Apollo-manufactured SJT 14/3 power cord before passing through a RONG FENG RF-112B resettable circuit breaker rated 15 amperes at 125 volts AC. Electrical distribution is accomplished through a long stamped-metal contact assembly extending the length of the enclosure and serving all six receptacles.

Unlike many surge protectors documented by the archive, the CO-001S does not utilize a printed-circuit board. Surge suppression is provided solely by a single SAS 241KD14 metal-oxide varistor connected directly between the hot and neutral conductors using short wire leads and soldered connections.

No additional MOVs, line-to-ground suppression paths, filtering inductors, capacitors, thermal cutoffs, indicator circuitry, or other supplemental surge-suppression components were observed. The design therefore represents one of the simplest surge-suppression implementations currently documented by the OldSurge Archive.

Despite the simplicity of the suppression circuitry, the unit incorporates a substantial stamped-metal outlet-contact assembly, a full 15-amp resettable circuit breaker, and a 14 AWG power cord. The design appears to prioritize robust power distribution while providing only basic transient-voltage suppression.

The documented MOV remains commercially available through modern electronic-component distributors. Contemporary component documentation identifies comparable 241KD14 devices as 14 mm MOV surge suppressors intended for AC power-line protection applications.

UL certification records additionally confirm that the RONG FENG RF-112B belongs to a certified supplementary-protector product family manufactured by Rong Feng Industrial Co., Ltd.

No evidence of overheating, damaged conductors, arcing, failed components, or internal electrical failure was observed. Internal components appeared consistent with normal long-term use.

The observed heat-related damage at the attachment plug therefore appears unrelated to any obvious internal failure within the surge protector itself.

== Comparison Notes ==

Specimen OS-0030 demonstrates that the differences observed between the archive's two documented COXOC CO-001S examples are relatively minor.

Although OS-0030 weighs less, utilizes a shorter power cord, and incorporates a functioning illuminated rocker switch, teardown examination revealed essentially identical internal construction in both units. Each specimen utilizes a RONG FENG RF-112B resettable circuit breaker, a single SAS 241KD14 metal-oxide varistor, a stamped-metal outlet-contact assembly, and a three-screw enclosure design.

The documented differences therefore appear to reflect normal production variation and differing service histories rather than major design revisions.

The absence of plug damage and the continued operation of the switch lamp suggest that several condition issues observed on specimen OS-0028 were specific to that artifact rather than inherent characteristics of the CO-001S design.

== Recall Information ==

No recall information has presently been identified for the COXOC CO-001S.

== Historical References ==

Teardown examination identified several components for which modern documentation remains available.
